My name is Jackie Broadway-Duren, and I am hereby submitting my nomination for the AANP Nomination Council. I have been an NP since 1995 and possess years of clinical and leadership experience. I served in various leadership roles at a large academic institution with over 650 NPs. As a leader, I served as chair for several APRN committees i.e., Leadership, Education, and APRN Council. In this role, I presided over monthly meetings, created and revised bylaws, and supported membership. Additionally, I organized the first APRN Council at our institution where I served as the chair for 3 years, assisted in securing speakers, facilitated NP Week activities, and advocated for changes in institutional policies for NPs. Lastly, I served as a clinical coordinator for the APRN Fellowship Program for several years. My intentions are to actively participate in meetings and provide equitable, innovative contributions as a member of the Nomination Council.

What do you think is the biggest challenge facing NPs in the delivery of health care over the next decade? How should AANP address this issue to support NPs and the populations they serve?

The limited scope of practice for many states is restricting needed care of indigent patients and many who lack access to health care. AANP must continue to promote and increase awareness of the high-quality, equitable care that NPs provide and to support AANP PAC efforts. In doing so, continue to communicate the high value and merit of NPs that have demonstrated positive results. Additionally, AANP must continue to disclose statistical data concerning the educational background and years of evidence-based practice by NPs that led to well-documented positive patient outcomes. Finally, use the documented evidence to rally for full practice authority.

Describe, in detail, leadership and other professional skills that you will bring to AANP and provide at least one initiative or outcome that occurred because of these skills.

I organized the first APRN Council at our institution. The purpose of the Council is to provide a forum for APRNs at our institution to address practice issues, provide clinical practice updates, serve as an informational forum, address APRN concerns, and disperse information. I served as the committee chair of the Council for 3 years, creating operational bylaws, membership selection, and establishing sub-committees. The Council membership consists of 2 APRNs from each department. Additionally, I established and currently independently manage the first Leukemia Survivorship Clinic. I also serve as an active member of the Institutional Survivorship Working Group.

Identify one major challenge that could impact your ability to fulfill the responsibilities of the position you are seeking. How do you plan to manage this challenge to be successful?

I am not aware of any major challenges that would impact my ability to fulfill the duties and responsibilities of the position that I am seeking. I currently practice in an outpatient setting and have flexibility to participate in most endeavors. I have clinic 2 days a week however, if any meetings fall on the days of my clinic I will request coverage for my clinic responsibilities.

AANP’s mission is to empower all NPs to advance accessible, person-centered, equitable, high-quality health care for diverse communities through practice, education, advocacy, research, and leadership. If elected, how do you propose to advance AANP's mission and strategic plan?

I propose to work closely with colleagues to provide fair, ethical, and equitable consideration of all candidates applying for Council appointment and to offer constructive insights to enhance the selection process. My intentions are to actively participate in meetings and offer meaningful contributions that align with the mission of AANP. I also intend to honor commitments and support innovative strategies to accomplish the objectives of the Council through positive interprofessional collaboration with other committee members. As a member of the Nomination Council, I will closely evaluate all nominees based on alignment of their goals with the AANP Strategic plan.
