President-Elect Candidate
Campaign Message
NPs are at the frontlines of health care, yet we continue to face barriers that limit our ability to practice to the fullest extent of our education and training. Patients encounter long wait times, lack of access in rural and underserved areas, and unnecessary restrictions that delay the care they need. As candidate for President-elect, I am committed to addressing these areas head-on. I will advocate for removing barriers to NP practice, expanding access to equitable, high-quality, person-centered care, elevating the visibility of our profession. I will work to strengthen leadership pathways, educational opportunities, and resources that empower NPs to thrive in every practice setting. By advancing these priorities, we can create a future where both NPs and the patients they serve have the support and access they deserve.

What do you think is the biggest challenge facing NPs in the delivery of health care over the next decade? How should AANP address this issue to support NPs and the populations they serve?
The greatest challenge confronting Nurse Practitioners are the regulatory and policy restrictions that limit access to NP-provided care. While AANP has made notable strides in breaking down these barriers, much work remains. Currently, 22 states and three U.S. territories still impose restrictions that prevent full and direct access to NP care. Additionally, federal barriers continue to impact an NPs ability to order cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation, certify diabetic shoes, and prescribe medical nutrition therapy. To address these challenges, AANP must intensify its advocacy and political engagement to drive necessary reforms that support NPs and the diverse patient populations they serve.
Describe, in detail, leadership and other professional skills that you will bring to AANP and provide at least one initiative or outcome that occurred because of these skills.
As a visionary leader, I excel at anticipating future needs, identifying strategic opportunities, and inspiring others to work toward a shared purpose. When I served as president of a state APRN organization, I faced the challenge of supporting a rapidly growing organization with a limited number of board members to manage the increasing workload. To address this, I developed and proposed a new committee-based structure, supported by comprehensive policies outlining committee roles, responsibilities, and appointment processes. This innovation allowed non-board members to contribute meaningfully, alleviating the strain on board members while improving organizational efficiency.
Identify one major challenge that could impact your ability to fulfill the responsibilities of the position you are seeking. How do you plan to manage this challenge to be successful?
I do not anticipate any challenges that would impair or impact my ability to fulfill the responsibilities of the position I am seeking.
AANP’s mission is to empower all NPs to advance accessible, person-centered, equitable, high-quality health care for diverse communities through practice, education, advocacy, research, and leadership. If elected, how do you propose to advance AANP's mission and strategic plan?
I will advance AANP s mission by expanding both the size and diversity of our membership and leadership, ensuring our organization reflects the communities we serve and strengthens our impact on health equity. Partnering with AANP members and stakeholders, I will work to remove barriers to NP-provided care through advocacy and public awareness campaigns that highlight the high-quality, person-centered outcomes that NPs deliver. I will also support the development of clinical, educational, and leadership resources that empower NPs to thrive. By engaging more NPs and amplifying their voices, we can collectively drive accessible, equitable, high-quality care for all patients.
