State Liaison Candidate
Campaign Message
I have enjoyed serving as the Virginia state liason these past 2 years and would greatly appreciate the opportunity to do so for another 2 years. We have a lot of change occurring in the healthcare arena and I see this as a great opportunity to advocate for the roles that nurse practitioners can play in reshaping our health system and advocating for the needs of our patients. We continue to see data acknowledging the positive role NPs can have in our healthcare system and we need to leverage this information to help pave the way for change we need.

Becky's leadership has included sitting on various boards and committees within her own organization as well as on other healthcare related organizations. She is a avid advocate for nurse practitioners and the role they play in our nation's healthcare systems. Becky has been the Region 2 state liason for the prior 2 years and looks forward to the opportunity to continue this important role on behalf of the NPs for the state of Virginia.
What do you think is the biggest challenge facing NPs in the delivery of health care over the next decade? How should AANP address this issue to support NPs and the populations they serve?
We have a variety of challenges facing NPs in practice including restrictive practice policies, declining reimbursement and higher clinical demands to serve our patients with complex care needs. As an organization, we need to ensure our members are informed about the challenges and equipped to advocate for our profession and the needs of the patients we serve.
Describe, in detail, leadership and other professional skills that you will bring to AANP and provide at least one initiative or outcome that occurred because of these skills.
I am a clinical leader within my organization, have been a board member of my state NPO, within my organization as well as on the ASCCP. As a clinician and operational leader, I understand the complexity of health care systems and the challenges facing our NPs in practice. I am eager to support our NPs at a state and national level to address the barriers to care and support the advancement of NPs.
Identify one major challenge that could impact your ability to fulfill the responsibilities of the position you are seeking. How do you plan to manage this challenge to be successful?
I am balancing a full time job and am a parent as well. I will need to remain organized to ensure I can meet the various obligations of my work and home life, while engaging in professional organization work as well.
AANP’s mission is to empower all NPs to advance accessible, person-centered, equitable, high-quality health care for diverse communities through practice, education, advocacy, research, and leadership. If elected, how do you propose to advance AANP's mission and strategic plan?
I am already engaged at a state level with my NPO and plan to continue that partnership to ensure I am advocating for the NP profession, educating others on the role of the NP and promoting the needs of our organization.
