What do you think is the biggest challenge facing NPs in the delivery of health care over the next decade? How should AANP address this issue to support NPs and the populations they serve?
One of the greatest challenges Nurse Practitioners (NPs) face in the delivery of healthcare is the lack of full practice authority in many states, which limits their ability to deliver timely, comprehensive care. These barriers are especially concerning in rural and underserved areas, where NPs frequently serve as the primary or sole providers. These unnecessary restrictions directly undermine access and health equity. To address this, AANP must remain a strong national voice, advocating for legislative reform, mobilizing grassroots efforts, building strong partnerships, and advancing public education campaigns that highlight the safe, high-quality, exceptional value of NP provided care.
Describe, in detail, leadership and other professional skills that you will bring to AANP and provide at least one initiative or outcome that occurred because of these skills.
As a professional and leader, I bring expertise in collaborative leadership, policy advocacy, and systems thinking, strengthened through clinical practice, organizational involvement, and interprofessional teamwork. I lead with a solutions-focused mindset, leveraging data to guide decisions and compassion to center both patients, stakeholders, and providers. A key strength is my ability to build coalitions and mobilize others toward shared goals. Demonstrating strategic leadership, I convened providers and administrators with differing perspectives, fostered collaboration, and secured full medical staff privileges for Nurse Practitioners within our healthcare system advancing professional practice, strengthening workforce integration, and expanding access to high-quality, patient-centered care.
Identify one major challenge that could impact your ability to fulfill the responsibilities of the position you are seeking. How do you plan to manage this challenge to be successful?
While I do not anticipate obstacles that would prevent me from fulfilling the responsibilities of State Liaison, I recognize that time is the most common challenge in any leadership role. To address this, I prioritize effectively, ensuring the role remains a top commitment. I have discussed the expectations with my family, colleagues, and leadership, all of whom are supportive and willing to help balance other responsibilities. With this foundation, I am confident in my ability to dedicate the time, talent, and energy necessary to serve successfully as State Liaison.
AANP’s mission is to empower all NPs to advance accessible, person-centered, equitable, high-quality health care for diverse communities through practice, education, advocacy, research, and leadership. If elected, how do you propose to advance AANP's mission and strategic plan?
If re-elected as Indiana State Liaison, I will advance AANP s mission by increasing NP visibility, building membership, and advocating for the profession within the state and nationally. I will foster collaboration among NPs, students, and stakeholders while advocating for legislative and practice changes that enhance NP practice, enabling NPs to provide high-quality healthcare to their communities. Through continued outreach and policy advocacy, I will help expand awareness of NP s expertise, help strengthen NP leadership, identify and reduce barriers to practice, and help elevate awareness of our role in delivering high-quality, cost-effective healthcare across diverse communities.
