Running for State Liaison:

Ohio

Campaign Message

As a nurse practitioner, educator, and practice owner, I witness firsthand the systemic challenges that face our profession and the patients we serve. Barriers from legislation that restricts access to student loans for aspiring NPs, to inadequate reimbursement and administrative red tape from 3rd party payers undermine access, delay care, and devalue our expertise. Ohio has made meaningful, incremental progress in reducing limitations on NP practice authority, yet we still face limitations that restrict our ability to practice to the full extent of our training. I hope to serve as a bridge between Ohio s clinicians and AANP, amplifying our voices and accelerating efforts. I bring over a decade of leadership in clinical practice, academia, and advocacy and hope to leverage my leadership skills to champion policies that enhance and protect full practice authority and reduce administrative burdens.

Bio Sketch

Dr. Marie D. Grosh, DNP, APRN-CNP, LNHA, is a nationally recognized Nurse Practitioner and licensed Nursing Home Administrator with over two decades of leadership in geriatric care, education, and health policy. As the founder of Housecalls of the Falls, she has pioneered accessible primary care for older adults in home and facility settings across Northeast Ohio. A dedicated educator, Dr. Grosh serves as Lead Faculty at Case Western Reserve University s Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing and Instructor at the School of Dental Medicine, integrating oral-systemic health into advanced practice nursing. Her advocacy spans legislative testimony, expert witness work, and active roles in OAAPN and AANP, including national conference presentations. Honored with the 2025 AANP State Award for Excellence, she also received the Dean s Legacy Award and Marie Haug Award for her contributions to aging and health. Through research collaborations with NIH, PCORI, and the Cleveland Foundation, Dr. Grosh advances interdisciplinary care models that reduce disparities and improve outcomes. Her commitment to full practice authority and health equity makes her an ideal candidate to represent Ohio as AANP State Liaison.

What do you think is the biggest challenge facing NPs in the delivery of health care over the next decade? How should AANP address this issue to support NPs and the populations they serve?

I believe financial barriers will be our greatest challenge - on many levels. Advanced education must be affordable for aspiring NPs. Clinicians must be reimbursed fairly and equitably. Patients need coverage that allows full access to our unrestricted expertise. Insurance interference, overreach in our decision making, prior authorizations, and inadequate reimbursement devalue our care, delay treatment, and contribute to burnout. AANP must advocate for reduced administrative burdens, equitable reimbursement, and systemic reform that prioritizes patients over profits. No profession is immune to this epidemic. Therefore, we must collaborate across disciplines to build a more accessible, sustainable healthcare system.

Describe, in detail, leadership and other professional skills that you will bring to AANP and provide at least one initiative or outcome that occurred because of these skills.

As a dedicated practice owner for over a decade, I ve led transformative, patient-centered care for underserved populations. I serve as lead faculty in the MSN/DNP program at Case Western Reserve University, where I lead the family practice, advanced assessment, billing and coding, and global health courses. I ve led many interprofessional initiatives, including collaborative programs with dental clinics and annual medical missions to Guatemala. My leadership as vice president of my local chamber of commerce reflects my commitment to community engagement. These experiences have resulted in reduced hospitalizations, expanded access to care, and empowered future NPs through education and global service.

Identify one major challenge that could impact your ability to fulfill the responsibilities of the position you are seeking. How do you plan to manage this challenge to be successful?

Balancing my deep commitments to teaching, patient care, and my family is a challenge I take seriously. However, I m fortunate to have strong, independent teams of excellent faculty and a supportive family including my young adult children who are inspired by my leadership. I embrace innovation, including telemedicine and AI, to stay efficient and connected with my patients and students. My adaptability, creativity, and passion allow me to manage responsibilities effectively while continuing to grow. These tools help me focus my energy where it matters most: leading efforts to advance our profession and serving patients.

AANP’s mission is to empower all NPs to advance accessible, person-centered, equitable, high-quality health care for diverse communities through practice, education, advocacy, research, and leadership. If elected, how do you propose to advance AANP's mission and strategic plan?

As a practice owner, clinician, and educator in Ohio, I m committed to bridging the national vision of AANP with the voices of over 25,000 APRNs in our state. I will serve as a liaison to engage Ohio s NPs in national advocacy, education, and leadership efforts that advance person-centered, equitable care. By leveraging technology, fostering interprofessional collaboration, and amplifying grassroots involvement, I ll help ensure our diverse communities and NP workforce are represented in shaping policy and practice nationwide.
